2019-20 Season
We hope this will be an exciting and fun-filled year for you and your wrestler(s). Our program’s purpose is to promote wrestling and the development of good sportsmanship, while building individual character, strength, and stamina through a controlled, competitive atmosphere.
Touch of Gold is dedicated to the physical and mental welfare of your child. It takes time to acquire the skills and discipline of a good wrestler. Our program is designed to develop each wrestler to his/her fullest potential. Win or lose, support your wrestler. We want wrestling to be a positive experience for everyone. The Club offers a diverse program designed to meet the needs of each age group and skill level. Each wrestler matures at his/her own pace. If you would like to help your child develop a move, develop only the moves that are taught at practice. Additional moves may prove to be confusing. All Touch of Gold coaches are required to have a valid USA Coach’s Card for the current year. If you plan to participate as a coach at any of the tournaments, you must purchase a coach’s card.
Parent participation is crucial to the success of the Club. The Touch of Gold Wrestling Club can only be as strong as the parents involved. Without parent involvement, there is no club. There are many ways parents can be involved in the Club’s operations. Any parents wishing to help out are encouraged to give their names to any of the Board Members or Coaches.
Not only will we need assistance with coaching, but also with officiating, pairing, table help and concessions. At the WAWA state and local meets, we are required to meet the ratio of mat and pairing officials according to the number of wrestlers we have entered to wrestle. This enables the tournament to run smoothly and lessens the possibility of injury to a wrestler. Under USA wrestling insurance regulations, the mat and pairing officials must have a current UAWOA card. We encourage anyone who is interested in learning how to become a mat official or paring official to contact any of the Board members or Coaches.
Our wrestlers are our main priority. Help your wrestler…attend his/her tournaments. Kids are very encouraged by Club Spirit; it has a positive effect on their performance. Roll up your sleeves and prepare yourself for a full season of wrestling. If your wrestler makes a good move or wins a match, praise him/her. If he/she goes out and loses or wrestles poorly, support them. It takes tremendous courage for a wrestler to venture out to the center of the mat alone and face an opponent.

In-person registration will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 and Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Thunder Basin High School by the wrestling room during our camp. Practice Times
Practice will start on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 for everyone at Twin Spruce Jr. High wrestling room.
The practice schedule is as followed:
*Age 6 and under - Tuesday & Thursday from 5:15 to 6:00 P.M.
*Age 7 and up - Tuesday & Thursday from 6:15 to 7:30 P.M., and Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 P.M.
Tournaments
The club pays all tournament fees for the wrestlers. If you have signed up your child to wrestle a tournament, and they are unable to make it, please let a board member know as soon as possible. After 2 unexcused tournaments missed, we will require a deposit check before we will register your child for any more tournaments. We do require a deposit check for all wrestlers going to the WAWA state tournament, Rocky Mountain Nationals, all USA and AAU Regionals and National tournaments.
What to Wear to Practice
Practice dress should include: shorts, shirt or singlet, wrestling shoes and headgear. THE USE OF HEADGEAR IS MANDATORY! Since space in our facility is limited and does not include the use of a locker room, your child will need to wear their workout clothes to practice. Please do not have your child wear street shoes for wrestling shoes, as it is very important that we keep the mats clean and in good shape. NO SHOES ALLOWED UPSTAIRS, EXCEPT WRESTLING SHOES.
Singlets
The club will be renting singlets to the wrestlers. We ask that you pay a $45.00 rental fee for the singlet, which $35.00 will be refunded to you when it is returned back to the club at the end of the season, if undamaged. The best time to turn in your singlet is at our wrestling banquet. If the singlet is not turned in by the banquet, the money will be used to cover the cost of replacing the singlet. We do require a rental agreement to be signed.
Club Gear
Club gear is available for sale at www.damagedear.com. In order to keep the price down, we will place a big order as a club by December 1, 2019 to ensure delivery by the beginning of January. If you would like any gear, please sign up and pay for it at registration. You will also be able to order at www.damagedear.com after December 1, 2019, but the prices for the gear may be higher, and it will take 4 weeks to receive it.
If you have a jacket, hat, bag, or anything that you would like to put the Touch of Gold logo on, feel free to take it down to That Embroidery Place (the club will not pay for this).
Parent Meeting and Miscellaneous Information
Touch of Gold will post the practice schedule, tournament and miscellaneous information on bulletin boards in the practice rooms, on Facebook, and on the website, [email protected] Please check the bulletin board, our Facebook page, and website regularly for updated information. We will have several parent meetings during the season and will inform you of the dates. If you ever have any questions, you can always email the board at [email protected] and look for updates coming from this email. Board members are also at every practice, so feel free to approach us with any questions you may have. Please make sure we have correct contact information. If you have a change of any information, or you are not getting emails, please contact a board member.
For the safety of the children and to lessen the liability for Touch of Gold, we are now requiring a background check for parents wanting to assist on the mat. For more information on getting a background check, please contact a Board Member.
Official’s and Coach’s Cards
In order to officiate or coach, you must obtain a coach’s or an official’s card from the State. These cards can only be bought on-line. You will need to go to www.themat.com and click on membership. Off to the right of the screen you will find “Login” click on this, then click what applies to you. As of 2010 a background check is required to obtain a coach’s or official’s card, this background check is valid for two years. The background check may take a day or two, once you receive an email saying your background check has cleared, proceed to getting your coach’s card or official’s card (pairing or referee). Touch of Gold will reimburse for pairing, mat official and coach’s cards. Coach’s cards will only be reimbursed after a one year of coaching. Cards also will only be reimbursed for those who are helping in the wrestling room and at the tournaments. Coaching ONLY your child does not qualify you for this reimbursement!
Raffle Ticket Fundraiser
Wrestlers/Parents have a choice to sell 1 packets of 15 tickets, opt-out, or get a sponsorship. If you choose to sell 1 packet, it has become necessary for Touch of Gold to require a deposit check for the packet of tickets ($150). If you choose to opt-out, you will pay $150.00 instead of selling tickets. If you choose to get a sponsorship, Touch of Gold will require a deposit check for $150.00.
